MOTAT Lancaster

About Us

MOTAT Lancaster

Over seven thousand Lancasters were built. Of these just seventeen remain in complete form.

For that reason alone, we are extremely fortunate to have one displayed in perpetuity here in New Zealand at the Museum of Transport and Technology (MOTAT).

New Zealand
Bomber Command Association

The New Zealand Bomber Command Association was founded in 1986 by the veterans who served in World War II.

The passing of time meant that in 2018, the Association’s rules were amended to pass the baton to the next generation to ensure the remarkable service and sacrifice of these airmen is remembered. In doing so, outgoing President Ron Mayhill, the last veteran to hold office, set out the future aims of the Association as:

To maintain the memory of NZ Bomber Command long after the last surviving veteran has passed away.

To remember the huge sacrifice of Bomber Command aircrew.

To organise regular events to honour RNZAF Bomber Command and its ethos.

To foster interest in later generations of the vital part in NZ history of the formation of RNZAF Bomber Command.

To maintain strong links with museums, memorials and cemeteries which honour Bomber Command.

Today the NZBCA seeks to meet each of these aims while also supporting those remaining veterans in New Zealand. Our aim is not to glorify Bomber Command or war, but to honour service and sacrifice.
